Family Tree Poem

“My Family Tree” Oh so many branches Are on my family tree. Each one tells a name from My family history. Grandma’s there and Grandpa, And lots and lots of greats. Each of these fine folks gave Me all my many traits. Branches that are empty Show names we haven’t found. But I’m sure to find them If I just look around. Filling in the branches Sure makes my tree look neat. When I know them all, then My tree will be complete. Jelaire Smedley, Friend, Oct 2009

Family Tree

A Family Tree is not really a tree at all.....
A Family Tree can not provide shade from the hot summer sun or shelter from the rain or wind or beauty to our landscape etc. What a Family Tree does give us is a place in a family. A Family Tree is a representation of your personal pedigree. Most often you are at the trunk or at ground level which places your great grandparents and further generation in the top of the tree. Sometimes when we have a Family Tree which represents only two generations, mother and father will be the trunk and the children and grandchildren are the branches. This would make our ancestors the "roots" of the Family Tree. Picture your self under a Family Tree. What does it look like? Most of us seem to have large holes in the branches! It is important to fill in the blanks and complete your Tree or Pedigree chart.
George D. Durrant gives his feelings about Family Trees;(  Family Tree complete article) I remember, as a grandfather, having a picture taken of our family. Like other grandparents, I did not want a single descendant left out. What a task it was to arrange everyone's schedule so we could all be in the same place at the same time. But it was worth it.
I think that is how most families feel. Grandparents love their children and grandchildren. They want to spend eternity with them. So why wouldn't our ancestors feel the same way about their posterity? I think they would. (end quote)
Russel M. Nelson said this about Family Trees that "Link in Love" ; The new FamilySearch system changes the dynamics of family history work by facilitating the creation of one common pedigree. In the past, a person worked separately, keeping his or her own family records. One often worked without knowing what other family members were doing. Now each person can contribute information while coordinating with others in developing their Family Tree.

I hope the Day family can work together to fill in the empty branches of our Family Tree. We are very blessed that the "tree" is healthy and in good shape. There isn't a lot of filling in the blanks to do. But the "tree" needs a lot of pruning and shaping up to make it right. Meaning; there is misinformation in the records that needs fixing.

New Newsletter-

Dear Day family, Aunts, Uncles and many cousins!!
Wow, I just get started and then decide to quit. Well not quite!! The newsletter format, e-mails, family stuff, church callings, etc, etc were really more than I needed to do. But, I really did want to know my Day family!! The newsletter just hung over me- It was not a comfort for me like I wanted it to be. I was thinking that what we all needed was to share a little more. I am HOPING that everyone will share in some way about family, life today and yesterday and long ago (that is called family history) so that we will all know each other better. I hope you will feel the same way I do. I may be a fanatic about Family History- but that is part of who I am. I feel it is important to know our family toDay and all our family that lived in the many YesterDays- They are part who we all are toDay.
I realize more and more that we are NOT in the same place in life, or even share the same life style. What we do share is our heritage and in many ways I believe we will find that we do have things in common if we communicate and share experiences and ask questions about the Day family history through this blog.
